Jasper County Scanner Feed May Go Silent By Years End

Due to the implementation of the new Nexedge digital radio system in the works, the Jasper County scanner feed may go silent by years end.  This move will benefit the public safety community in the area and provide interoperable communications among all agencies in the county.

A lot of the feed listeners log on strictly for weather related purposes. I will look at some options on what can be monitored and would most benefit the listeners concerning severe weather coverage and go from there.  I will update as soon as the change is made.

Not too much to hear on this clip however this is more to illustrate the concept of gaining information from a scanner radio during a storm event.  I was able to monitor Labette County OEM on KSICS while the storms worked our way and listen to spotters track storms to our west.

 I also gained storm reports from County and Municipal agencies as the storms progressed East.

I get questions and requests on what frequencies I scan and use for the area. Here is the setup in my 396. This does not include Joplins trunked system. Other than Lawrence county all or most of these can be monitored with a standard factory antenna and some with a simple stock portable antenna. Printable list here

Joplin Tornado Victims FEMA Trailer park

After doing some reading on what is called FEMA trailer parks I feel even more sorry for the tornado victims that will be inhabiting them.

The trailer park, currently being built south of the Joplin Airport, is going up quickly and soon will be occupied by homeless victims of the May 22 Joplin,Mo tornado.
However, in past disasters these parks have been plagued with drugs and crime. Due to government "freeloading" some cities have had to force occupants to show progress on rebuilding or move out. Some forced out homeless even after court battles. The trailers themselves are said to be thin walled and not insulated well. Granted, a majority will do their best to look forward, rebuild, and move on. I feel for those with families with kids that will have no choice but to occupy the trailers, not knowing who will living next to them, a thief? a pervert? Just another horrible situation for these victims. I hope some church groups will provide some activities and something to do for the children in the park periodically. The trailers are small and there are no parks close to that area.

Carl  Junction Police in pursuit of a suspicious vehicle. The scanner is in scan mode so you will hear some unrelated radio traffic. The pursuit began within Carl Junction and proceeded west into Kansas. Heres the link,,,,,

JCS continues to attract more and more listeners. Above is a RR generated graph showing max listeners per hour. We reached a new peak of 10, not bad for relatively small agencies to listen to. I also indicated the evening traffic, not surprisingly this is the busiest time.

Winter Wx threatens SW Missouri.

A strong storm system will bring heavy snow to the area this afternoon and evening. Road conditions will rapidly deteriorate as the rain transitions to sleet and then snow.

Police and EMS will be extremely busy once the storm sets in. Log on and listen.

The feed has been up for a month or so and the site is still increasing in listeners. The above chart shows each hour of day on specific dates. If you have any comments or questions please leave me an email . Im curious to know where our listeners are from. Also, are there any requests as far frequencies to scan? I thought about adding a couple of Kansas Sheriffs Agencies to increase traffic through the winter months while things are slow.
