Jasper County Scanner Feed May Go Silent By Years End

Due to the implementation of the new Nexedge digital radio system in the works, the Jasper County scanner feed may go silent by years end.  This move will benefit the public safety community in the area and provide interoperable communications among all agencies in the county.

A lot of the feed listeners log on strictly for weather related purposes. I will look at some options on what can be monitored and would most benefit the listeners concerning severe weather coverage and go from there.  I will update as soon as the change is made.

Raspberry Pi Feed

Scanner with Raspberry Pi
The photo is of the scanner and single board computer (Raspberry Pi) that is
used to feed audio to Radio Reference. The scanner feeds audio through a USB sound card that is connected to the Pi.  This means no more dedicated computer to worry about. The Pi is a 700mhz, 512 ram computer that is able to run 4 versions of Linux. The Pi has GPIO pins that can be used for projects that range from robotics to media servers. I have a lot more to explore and will post my future projects.

Storms/weak tornado hit Ozarks

A line of storms developed along the Ar/Mo border this afternoon. There have been multiple reports of wind damage with winds in excess of 70 mph.  The image was taken from GR Level 3 prior to hitting the Branson area. NWS confirmed that an EF 0 tornado struck a dock on Table Rock lake.

JCS Stats December and January

Couple of down times shown in the image. Blue indicates down time due to Radio Reference issues and black indicates my ISP being down. I circled and boxed in a few busy times for my feed.

JCS stats

JCS continues to attract more and more listeners. Above is a RR generated graph showing max listeners per hour. We reached a new peak of 10, not bad for relatively small agencies to listen to. I also indicated the evening traffic, not surprisingly this is the busiest time.

JCS is growing

Listeners per hour.

The feed has been up for a month or so and the site is still increasing in listeners. The above chart shows each hour of day on specific dates. If you have any comments or questions please leave me an email . Im curious to know where our listeners are from. Also, are there any requests as far frequencies to scan? I thought about adding a couple of Kansas Sheriffs Agencies to increase traffic through the winter months while things are slow.
